Catchments

The Shire of Mt Marshall has identified eight catchments within the Shire area. The catchments have a number of sub-catchments and all vary in size and attributes. The catchments include:

 

  • Lake McDermott Catchment
  • Lake Mollerin Catchment
  • Beacon River Catchment
  • Askew Lake Catchment
  • Lake Wallambin Catchment
  • Lake Moore Catchment
  • Tampu Catchment, and
  • Wialki Catchment

A number of these catchments have active catchment groups.

Lake McDermott

Lake McDermott Catchment Group

The Lake McDermott Catchment covers an area of some 116,500 ha (1165 square kilometres). The Catchment is located to the south-eastern section of the Shire and contains some – landholders. The icon of this catchment is Lake McDermott and the catchment has a number of sub-catchments, including, Coopers Creek, Eyanning, West Bencubbin, Waddouring and Welbungin.

The Conservation Group has the following executive members:

Beacon River

Beacon River Catchment Group

The Beacon River Catchment covers an area of some 112,700 ha (1127 square kilometres). The catchment is located in the middle section of the Shire and contains some – landholders. The icons of this catchment include Job Lake, the Beacon River and Scotsman Lake and the catchment has a number of sub-catchments, including, Dalgouring, Clafferty’s, Beacon North and Jobs. The Beacon River Catchment is the location of an Engineering Evaluation Initiative demonstration site.

Lake Wallambin

Lake Wallambin - Mandiga Catchment Group

The Lake Wallambin Catchment covers an area of some 55,800 ha (558 square kilometres). The catchment is located in the south-west section of the Shire and contains some 25 landholders. The icon of this catchment is Lake Wallambin and the catchment has a number of sub-catchments, including, Gabbin and Mandiga. Lake Wallambin is listed as a medium value- medium threat asset by the Salinity Investment Framework.

Lake Mollerin Catchment

The Lake Mollerin Catchment covers an area of some 50,900 ha (509 square kilometres). The catchment is located in the central west of the Shire and contains some – landholders. The icon of this catchment is Lake Mollerin and contains a number of sub-catchments, including, Cleary.

Askew Lake Catchment

The Askew Lake Catchment covers an area of some 7,900 ha (79square kilometres). The catchment is located in the centre of the Shire and contains some – landholders. The icon of this catchment is Askew Lake.

Lake Moore Catchment

The Lake Moore Catchment covers an area of some xx ha (xx square kilometres). The catchment is located in the north-west of the Shire and consists mainly of pastoral county, including Mouroubra, Bimbijy and Remlap Stations. The icon of this catchment is Lake Moore.

Tampu Catchment

The Tampu Catchment covers an area of some 60,000 ha (600 square kilometres). The catchment is located in the central west of the Shire and contains some – landholders. The icon of this catchment is Lake Moore and a large lake on Remlap Station.
